![[Space Suit]](d613a.jpg) |
Commander David Scott wore this spacesuit on the Apollo 15 lunar mission, launched on July 26, 1971.
Apollo spacesuits provided a reliable, light-weight life-support system. The outer layer consisted of a thermal protection assembly that guarded against micrometeor impact, fire, and extreme temperatures ranging from +250 degrees to -250 degrees Fahrenheit. Specially designed joints accommodated astronauts' movements. A ventilation system provided oxygen, removed carbon dioxide and moisture, and controlled body pressure.
