[engine] Surveyor lunar probes, launched during the late 1960s, were the United States' first spacecraft to soft-land on the Moon. They yielded pictures and data for the subsequent manned Apollo lunar landing program.

The probes' vernier engines were essential to the missions. By providing precise bursts of power for mid-course corrections and position controls, they were responsbile for landing the probes as planned.

Every probe had three engines, yielding 30-104 lbs.(13.6-47kg) of thrust apiece.
