[SI Homepage] Creativity Around the World

Since its founding, the Smithsonian has collected works from a wide range of cultures. Among others, its holdings include Chinese jades, Japanese porcelains, Indian metalwork, royal Begin bronze plaques, Islamic illuminated manuscripts, and Native American ceramics. The objects exhibited here provide a lens through which we can begin to understand and appreciate some of the ritual ceremonies, daily activities, and aesthetic traditions of people throughout the world.
