[ O'Keeffe Photo]

Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O'Keeffe's husband, strove to elevate the artistic status of photography throughout his career. In 1903, he opened the "291" gallery in New York City, exhibiting photographs alongside paintings and sculptures by Rodin, CJzanne, Picasso, and Brancusi, among others.

Stieglitz sought to capture "related shapes and deepest human feeling" with his camera. O'Keeffe, with her powerfully honed, expressive, and compelling features was one of his most famous subjects.
