Mecene Jacques was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and immigrated to the United States, where he set up a studio close to Washington, D.C. He sculpts furniture and other pieces that feature motifs drawn from his cultural heritage. Jacques carved this chair in the form of a mermaid, a symbolic figure common in parts of the Caribbean.
