Claude Lalanne was inspired by her work as a sculptor when she made these flatware pieces. She based their shapes on natural forms, in some
instances taking casts directly from natural objects like twigs.
Her method resembles that of Renaissance silversmiths, who often made castings from leaves, twigs, shells, insects, and small animals like lizards. Lalanne shares their empirical approach to representation in her domestic objects and sculptures.
