[SI Homepage] The American Vision

The paintings in this gallery were created between 1830 and 1955. As a group, they illustrate the inspiration of the American experience as well as an indebtedness to classical and European artistic conventions. The sculptures by European artists exemplify some of the stylistic influences that have inspired American artists.
