[Fur Coat] Marian Anderson helped break down racial barriers in the United States. In 1939 the Daughters of the American revolution refused to allow her to perform at its Constitution Hall facility in Washington, D.C., because of her race. Widespread outrage and the efforts of Eleanor roosevelt resulted in Anderson's open-air concert at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D. C., on Easter Sunday, 1939. She wore this fur coat during the event.
