Kermit the Frog, created by Jim Henson (1936-1990), belongs to America's beloved puppet troop, the Muppets. He is best known as a
star character on the public television show Sesame Street.
Begun in 1969, the series revolutionized children's television by teaching lessons through colorful cartoons and live action scenes. One of Kermit's roles was as a crusader for tolerance. His hit song "It's Not Easy Being Green" addressed racial and ethnic tensions. Courtesy of the National Museum of American History, gift of Jim Henson Productions, 1994 |
