[Jersey] At the 1980 Olympics, the U.S. hockey team beat the Finnish team in the finals to win the gold medal. It was the semi- final game against the Soviet team, however, that created "the miracle on ice". A group of college athletes who had been playing together for only a few weeks achieved that miracle upon beating the Soviet Union's experienced national team.

To commemorate their victory, team members donated several items to the Smithsonian through Sports Illustrated, including this jersey.
