An ice skater and movie star, Sonja Henie significantly influenced the development of her sport with her blend of skill and glamour. One of the
great figure skaters of the 20th century, she revived interest in the sport with 3 gold-medal performances at the Olympic Games, touring ice pageants, and movies.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Henie created the dance style of skating and the short skating costume, as well as popularized women's white boot skates. Courtesy of the National Museum of American History, gift of the Sports Illustrated Purchase Fund, 1984
