[Stamp Design] Some of the Smithsonian's presidential memorabilia recalls our presidents' hobbies, evoking the lighter side of history. Franklin D. Roosevelt was a devoted stamp collector.

He sometimes sketched designs for new stamps, including this design for a six-cent airmail stamp issued in 1938. The eagle with outspread wings, holding a shield with arrows and olive branches symbolizes freedom, protection, and peace.
