[Basket] Hiroshima Kazuo--the last traveling basket maker serving villagers on the island of Ky‹shy‹, Japan--made this basket in 1986. It is the product of a long tradition of rural basket making.

Villagers still fill traps with fragrant bait to catch dace or carp, which feed on the river bottom. The trap's rectangular mouth is fitted with a flexible gate made of bamboo strips to prevent the fish from escaping.
