	This photograph of Walt Whitman was once thought to be the work of Thomas Eakins. But recent evidence indicates that it was taken by either Eakins' student Samuel Murray or Sophia Williams, wife of the Philadelphia journalist Talcott Williams. Courtesy of the National Portrait Gallery.
