The Castle of Knowledge

National Museum of Natural History's web-lab specimens are preserved in much the same way as those in Dutch merchant Levin Vincent's private collection, illustrated in Collection of the Wonders of Nature, 1719. Both this book and British mathematician Roberte Recorde's The Castle of Knowledge--an explanation of ancient astronomy--belong to Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
