1876 Centennial

Centennial Exhibition Hall

[Deer Exhibit] [Exhibition Hall]

In the Centennial Exposition's Government Hall, the Smithsonian displayed numerous Indian artifacts, including totem poles from the Northwest Coast that had never before been seen in the East and a tepee that is still on exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History. Assembled by curator George Brown Goode, the Smithsonian's animal display featured moose, elk, caribou, and other North American mammals.
