Sioux Chief's Depiction

[Indian Drawing]

Sioux chief Red Horse's 1881 depiction of a scene from the Battle of Little Bighorn resides at the Smithsonian. A newspaper article theorized that some 10,000 Indians took part in the June 25, 1875, battle, in which Sioux and Cheyenne warriors killed Ceneral George Armstrong Custer and his 225 troopers. After the battle, a requiem was composed in honor of the slain colonel.
