Peacock Room

[The Peacock Room]

The famed Peacock Room was created by James McNeill Whistler for shipping magnate Frederick Leyland to house Whistler's 1864 painting Rose and Silver:The Princess From the Land of Porcelain. Some years after the deaths of both Whistler and Leyland, American railroad baron Charles Lang Freer bought both painting and room, which today are among the treasures of the Freer Gallery of Art.
