Tour the Castle's Top Floor After its First Fifty Years

Model of Swiss Lake Village

In times long anterior to the dawn of authentic history, the practice extensively prevailed of constructing human habitations upon wooden piles driven into the shallow water of lakes, remains of which have been found especially in Switzerland, but also in other countries. Upon these piles platforms were placed and habitations erected, not for temporary occupation merely, but for prolonged residence.
