[bass]An extensive and [fishing lur] very complete display of " flies," arranged under the supervision of Mr. W. Holberton, in the employ of the leading firm of Abbey & Imbrie, 18 Vesey street, New York, will delight the eye of of the amateur angler, whose every caprice of fancy is met in the bright array of "doctors,"," scarlet ibis," , " brown hackles, " and other alluring temptations for the enthrallment of brook-trout and bass. The manufacture of these dainty appliances of angling, as well as of the many varieties of costly rods of split bamboo, noib and other tough and fibrous woods, with the essential multiplying reels, forms in the aggregate a vast industry, employing great capital and many hands. The firm enlisted in the preparation of the display mentioned is the oldest and best representative of the trade in the United States.

There is room for much reflection in studying the ingenious counterfeits-numbering some hundreds-of winged insects, of which each form or color has its trade name well known to every true sportsman. The collection of articles identified with pastimes, and sports, arranged by Messrs. Peck & Snyder of NewYork, is referred to elsewhere at length. many ingenious devices used for mental diversion, physical culture and the preservation of health, it is but, a small fraction of the infinite variety of goods under this head sold by such extensive houses as the one mentioned.
