Photograph of the Smithsonian Institution Building with a view east. The United States Capitol was visible through the porte-cochere on the north side of the Castle. The dome of the United States Capitol was under construction at the time, dating the photograph to 1862.

View of the north exterior of the Smithsonian Institution Building. Dr. Lucius D. Copeland's steam tricycle was parked in front of the Castle's porte-cochere.

View of the Smithsonian Institution Building in 1978 from across the Mall. The Flag Tower and North Tower were visible with the reconstructed roof of the latter. The planning of the Committee on Future Building in the 1960s was responsible for much needed improvements to the building.

View of the north entrance of the Smithsonian Institution Building. The Flag Tower and North Tower were visible. The statue of Joseph Henry faced the Mall, dating this image to after 1965 when the statue was turned 180 degrees.
