View of the east façade of the East Wing of the Smithsonian Institution Building after the fire of 1865. Round windows were added to the South Tower in the post-fire reconstruction. In 1884 Adolf Cluss and Paul Schulze reconfigured the East Wing and Range to make it fireproof and capture more functional space.

East door of the East Wing of the Smithsonian Institution Building in a photograph dated July 10, 1891. Fourteen staff of the International Exchange Service posed on the east steps. The organization encouraged the exchange of scientific publications between the United States and foreign countries.

View of the East Wing and Range of the Smithsonian Institution Building from the north. The East Wing appeared in the left of the photograph, connected to the Campanile and Main Building by the East Range. The North Tower roof had been destroyed in the 1865 fire.

The east façade of the East Wing of the Smithsonian Institution Building. The east doors appeared here in a photograph dated 1982. They had been replaced from the earlier doors visible in a photograph with International Exchange Service employees. Railings had also been added since the 1891 photograph (S.I. neg. #82-3382).
